Education and The Coastal Society
In order to carry
out The Coastal Society's goals of promoting professional education,
and supporting and furthering the education of students and professionals,
the Education Committee is responsible for a broad range of activities
under "pre-professional education" and "continuing
education."
-
Student Awards
at Biennial TCS conferences;
-
Support student
travel at biennial TCS conferences through fundraising;
-
Host student
showcase and/or training opportunities at CZ and TCS biennial
conferences;
-
Encourage
networking and career opportunities for TCS members (eg., through
Internships and Fellowships feature in Bulletin, etc); and
-
Look for
creative ways of informing others about coastal issues.
One example
is the distance learning proposal being developed in cooperation
with the NOAA Coastal Services Center and an academic institution
to provide "Coastal Zone Management for Practioners "
(CZ101).
Furthermore,
in order to work toward the mission of actively addressing emerging
coastal issues, the Education Committee is working in partnership
with other organizations, notably Project Learning Tree and the
National Marine Educators Association, to address the need for an
environmentally literate citizenry.
