Closing
Plenary
Wednesday, July 2, 2008
The field of coastal management is in the midst of change. As more experienced individuals are retiring and new individuals are entering the field, it is increasingly important to ensure that as coastal professionals, we have strong leadership skills. The Closing Plenary Keynote Speaker will address the importance of leadership during this transition as well as leadership and diversity. Panel speakers will offer insight into their experiences, challenges, and lessons learned during their careers as coastal professionals and will discuss what future coastal management issues and managers might look like. They will challenge participants to think creatively about the future role of individuals and organizations to positively impact coastal management. The session will end with round-table discussions in which the audience will identify steps The Coastal Society should take related to its role in providing leadership training and serving as a bridge between disciplines and generations within the coastal community.
