Opening
Plenary The Monday opening plenary will kickoff the conference and inform conference participants about how port activities impact the coastal environment and what solutions are envisioned, explored or implemented by professionals and stakeholders to minimize negative impacts and to enhance positive ones. Of particular interest are the economic costs of reducing and mitigating environmental impacts. Since port authorities are generally quasi-public entities, public-private partnerships will be emphasized as well as environmental justice aspects of port impacts. The keynote speaker and panelists will address the role of businesses that depend on port services, the involvement of agencies and planning authorities, and the role of advocacy groups working to improve environmental quality around ports.
