Membership Benefits
Join forces with your colleagues in an international society that addresses technical, policy, educational, and management issues with a coastal focus. A key part of the mission of The Coastal Society (TCS) is to provide professional education and development to members through communication and education. To accomplish that mission, TCS offers you the following benefits of membership:
International Conference
Share your experience and research at the international biennial conferences of The Coastal Society. Participate in the development of better strategies for addressing your coastal concerns with experts and specialists from a wide variety of disciplines. Save money with the member's discount on TCS conference registration fees. The difference in price is enough to pay your dues for next year! Conference registration includes a Conference Proceedings, now published online. Awards for significant contributions to coastal management and to The Coastal Society are given at the conference
Email List
Receive weekly notification of coastal management jobs, and periodic announcements of upcoming conferences, educational opportunities, and news briefs on coastal issues. Other information is posted to the Members Only section of the web site.
Online Networking Directory
Members complete their own online profiles, select which information to include in a search, and then start connecting with others in this exclusive group of coastal professionals and students. Connect with other TCS members near you, or find someone with expertise you may need.
TCS Bulletin
Put to use the information found in the TCS Bulletin, disseminated electronically to members, that features coastal news, policy announcements, and research updates, plus regular articles on legal issues, legislative action, international events, and coastal management strategies. Keep up with other members via the "Member News" section.
Journal
Keep abreast of research findings, analysis, tools and techniques as you set policy and manage our coastal resources -- and save money at the same time. TCS Regular, Institutional and Corporate membership categories include a subscription to Coastal Management, the international journal of marine environment, resources, law and society.
Free Publications
TCS members or their organizations may offer to make their publications available to the entire TCS membership. Though we won't provide members or their organizations with the TCS mailing list, we will work with you to help distribute your publication electronically or via mail. Want to share your publication with other members? Just contact us.

Membership Categories
Regular Professionals in all facets of coastal management and citizens with an interest in coastal
resources who are interested in supporting the mission of The Coastal Society would be Regular members.
They will receive all the benefits listed above. Dues are $60 for a calendar year of membership. Initiation
dues are also $70 regardless of the date when you join.
New Professional Professionals in all facets of coastal management who have been out of school for
less than two years are entitled to a special reduced dues rate. While the calendar-year dues of $50 is too low
to include the subscription to Coastal Management, all the other benefits of membership are yours for the
taking. When joining please note the date of graduation and the institution. Initiation dues are also $50
regardless of the date when you join.
Retired Former professionals in all facets of coastal management and citizens with an interest in coastal
resources who are over age 65 and retired from full time employment are entitled to pay a special reduced
dues rate of $40. While this dues rate is too low to include the subscription to Coastal Management, all the
other benefits of membership are included. When joining please note the date of retirement and the former
institution. Initiation dues are also $40 regardless of the date when you join.
Student Currently enrolled as a graduate, undergraduate or secondary school student? Then take
advantage of the lowest possible dues rate from TCS. The calendar-year dues of $20 is less than a Saturday
night out. This dues rate won't cover a subscription to Coastal Management, but you can probably access it
through your school's library. When joining please include your advisor's name and email address. Initiation
dues are also $20 regardless of the date when you join. However, if you are joining during the fall semester,
your membership will be extended through the end of the next year.
Library Any library may become a library member. From past experience we've learned that library
members are really subscribing to the TCS Bulletin. That's why the category does not have the benefit of
voting, and most librarians opt out of the email announcements list. Subscriptions to Coastal Management
must be made directly with the publisher instead of through TCS. We appreciate the assistance of our library
members in disseminating information from coastal resource managers and scientists. Annual dues are $50.
Institutional Any institution or organization interested in supporting the mission of TCS is welcome to
join at the support level of $250. This category of membership entitles the Institutional member to provide
the name and contact information for two individuals who will each receive all the benefits of a Regular
member. Dues are on a calendar year basis, and Initiation dues are also $250 regardless of the date of joining.
Corporate Any company, business, or organization interested in supporting the mission of TCS at the
$500 level will be a Corporate member. This category of membership entitles the Corporate member to
provide the name and contact information for four individuals who will each receive all the benefits of a
Regular member. Dues are on a calendar year basis, and Initiation dues are also $500 regardless of the date
of joining.
